6 pointer!

Goshen, IN
Elkhart County Fairgrounds site 175

5:30 is an awful hour to get up, but we had to do it in order to get the coach to Lippert's by 7 am.  We've never hitched up in the dark before, but now I know why they put the lights in the basements and on the front.  It wasn't bad enough we had to hitch up in the dark, Bill also had to back the rig down the road.  We started out of the fairgrounds to the main gate, but they had this side blocked off so we had to back all the way back and go out the other gate.

Highway 31 has a Z curve, and of course we met someone coming at us with their headlights on bright.  They have electric poles with guide wires at the edge of the road, plus the sharp curve.

When we arrived, three minutes late, the garage was open and Chris guided us into the garage.  We were told we had to empty the basement out when we made our appointment but Chris said we just needed to empty the front basement.  That was an easy task, and they had some pallets to place our stuff on.

They had coffee, soda, water, and snacks in the waiting room.  They also had a computer and satellite TV and very comfy chairs.  We were told it would take about 8 hours to complete the 6 point level up system.

Walmart wasn't far away, so we decided to do our weekly trip.  Normally when you are in a hurry, it's crowded, but not today.  The cashiers were waiting for people.

Notice the addition to the Walmart parking lot.  They don't discriminate.

We decided to visit the Hostetler's Hudson Auto Museum while we were waiting.  Bill and I had signed up to attend this museum during the MOC rally but figured today seemed like a better time to do it.  The roads to Shipshewana are always a nice drive (when you aren't towing).  There were many buggy's on the roads.  They aren't too bad but the bicycles seems more of a problem.

It didn't look crowded so I was wondering if it was going to be worth the $6 admission.........but I was wrong.

1925 Hudson Essex

This was one of my favorites.  1929 Model R Coupe.

1929 Hudson R Convertible Coupe.

This one had a pull out truck bed with tailgate.
The beauty of the museum was the information they had on all the cars and how rare they were.  I took hundreds of photos and these were just a few.

Hudson gives me new meaning to their cars.

And since we weren't far from Middlebury, we knew where we wanted to stop and eat.  Bill and I have always stopped here when we are in the area, but we learned something new today.  Das Dutchman Essenhaus has a bakery on the northeast corner of the building.  We've always entered on the west side.  There is a clue over the door that says "menu dining."  Since we were coming from the east today, we parked on that side of the building and entered where the buses drop off passengers.  This side of the restaurant has a buffet.  Knowing how good the food is and how hard it is to make a decision we both opted for a buffet.  We usually don't do buffets because we eat too much and usually the food is setting out too long.  This was one of the best buffets ever.  The service was excellent even though they were very crowded.

By the time we left the restaurant, it was nearly 8 hours since we left so straight back to Lippert's we went.  Kelly came out to tell us that Chris was programming the system and it should be finished in a few minutes.
Chris wasn't sure how much room he would have for the hydraulic system with our two batteries but he managed to get it installed without taking up any storage space.

Bill backed the coach into our spot and pushed the button on the system.  We had boards under one side yesterday but not today.  When it auto leveled, Bill said "what did we forget, we set up so fast."

  2. You guys are going to be so spoiled. I can't believe you didn't know about that bakery. I found it the first time we were there even thought we came in on the other side. We haven't done the buffet because Jim always wants the same thing - chicken.

  3. We knew about the bakery, just not the other side that had the buffet. If you go to the east side with the buffet they have chicken on it. If you go in that side of the building, you can get the buffet or order off the menu.

We might be spoiled but I think they'll keep us going longer.
