Decisions, Decsions

Casa Grande, Arizona

Yes, we're still here.  Everyone thought we'd be back out on the road by now. Thank you for all the calls and emails from concerned friends.

First off I need to mention that Discount Tire made me happy.  I took the needle nose pliers that were found inside our tire into the store and told them what happened.  I have a very nice credit for the next time we need tires.  Kudos to Discount Tire.
Do you have any idea how much junk you can accumulate in 10 years?  I emptied out the coach and can't believe how much stuff I had.  I have to say I've never seen a RV with as
much storage as our Montana has. I have 23 cabinet doors (some cabinets have 2 doors) and 8 drawers in the kitchen.  Do you know what happens when you have a lot of space?

We put everything in the garage until we decided what comes next.  There is a community garage sale in November.

Bill said once the decision was made to hang up the keys, he felt like he lost his freedom.  Now he's talking about taking short trips.  We have reservations for the Winter Blast.  Right now the trailer is in the shop waiting for an estimate for the damage caused by the tire shop in Raton.

We have an appointment after that to see what the problem is with the slide coming out.  Someone said it could be an o-ring or the complete hydraulic system.  Lippert said it could be fixed by a mobile tech.  No matter if we keep it or sell it, I wouldn't sell it knowing something was wrong.

I'm surprised by the number of people that inquired about our truck.

I have to honestly say, I'm enjoying using soft toilet tissue and lounging in a big bathtub.  The storms that hit the Phoenix area have skirted around us.  Just a few drops of rain, enough to mess up the truck.

Usually, we can see the vehicles on I 10 which is 7 miles away.  When the storm came in the sun was out and then it was like it was midnight it was so dark.  It only lasted about 20 minutes but it's been 10 years since we've been in a haboo.

It's very nice that during this time of indecision, we had our home sitting waiting for us.  The suitcases are out in anticipation of our upcoming trip to England, Scotland and Wales.  One nice thing about this trip is we have a non-stop flight to London.  In the past, we've always had to change planes in places like JFK.  Nothing like going through customs in your home airport.

  1. We understand you indecision. It's hard. We have made two overnight trips and have a couple more planned. We are certainly enjoying the house though. Good luck friends.

  2. Short trips are a great idea. You still have the freedom to move and see good friends without the stress. Sorry you got caught in the storm but I'm glad I missed it. Post something when you return from this trip so I can come visit. 😄

  3. You have more storage in your Trailer then we do and we filled an entire Storage Unit while it was back at the Factory.
Maybe you should keep the truck and get a smaller trailer for quick trips.
Looking forward to your trip to the British Isles. Loved it there!
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  4. I had to make the decision for health reasons, and I felt like Bill--still feel that way. When i see a dirt road, I long for my truck. However, I just got back from a trip to Pennsylvania and the car was easier on my back. I just hate going in and out of motels, but I plan on short weekend trips, too. Age makes us all adjust, unfortunately..

    1. In our case, the truck is much more comfortable than our Honda. It's the hassle of finding a vacancy in a RV park without making reservations that seems to happen more and more.

  5. Was happy to see your post this morning. Trying a few short trips could be a good idea. If you enjoy it great; if not, then you know for sure this IS the time. I hope you blog about your upcoming overseas trip. I really enjoyed your last one.

    1. I may post about the trip but probably not until after we return. There just wasn't enough time on the Paris to Normandy trip, but once I started it I wanted to finish it.

  7. It is amazing how we all seem to collect more and more “things!” I’m so glad Discount Tired did the right thing. You see so few of that these days!!

    1. I think it's all in how you go about complaining. Don't yell, just tell them you were disappointed.

  8. Yay for Discount Tire. Don’t make a hasty decision that you might regret later. Try the shorter trips, stay longer, don’t try to do so much. Maybe you’ll find a smaller travel trailer or a Class C or B will be better now. In any case, good to see you back on here. Enjoy your British Isles trip. We took it on Princess and had a great time!

    1. You were getting your tires changed at the same time at Discount Tire when that was evidently left in the tire. That's what friends do, go to the tire stores together.
