Toledo, Spain Day 5 of the Spain and Portugal in Depth trip

Casa Grande, AZ

This morning our tour bus left for southern Spain. An hour away from Madrid we stopped in Toledo.  Everyday each place we visited topped the ones from before.  Today was no different.  Toledo has preserved its 2,000 year old history.  Toledo is another UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Toledo was the capital of Spain until the 16th century.

Domingo, our bus driver, stopped at this picturesque spot overlooking the Tagus River so we could take some photos with Toledo in the background.

Here's a group photo of the Spain and Portugal in Depth tour.  Our tour guide Estefi is in the front with the blue scarf.

Can you see the cathedral above my head.  There are over 100 buildings and monuments dating back 2,000 years.

Our local guides once again knew their stuff.  Estefi had informed us that the area was hilly and there were a lot of steps but we were so busy listening to our guide as he pointed out different things that we didn't notice.

Estefi told us that September and October were the favorite months for a wedding.  We were pleased that we were able to see the cathedral and a wedding hadn't closed it.  Either a wedding was just over or one was ready to begin as evidenced by the flowers.

Photos just can't show the details or the size of these walls.

El Alcazar was a 16th century Moorish citadel.

Everywhere you looked there was something to see.

All of the buildings faced inside to a beautiful garden and fountain.

Estefi was always wanting us to try different things from Spain and every day she had something different for us to try.

After lunch we continued south headed to Granada.  Estefi asked everyone if they wanted to stop and visit Don Quixote.  Of course, everyone wanted to add another adventure to our trip.

Don Quixote was thinner than I thought he'd be.

Time to get back on our Mercedes bus and head to Granada.
