It's Cool Now

Casa Grande, AZ
Sundance RV Resort

Good news!  The repairman came over on Saturday and repaired the refrigerator.  I waited until yesterday before I opened it to make sure it was cooling.  I can't believe what they charge for an RV fridge.  I love the wooden door on our fridge and the thought of having a residential stainless in that spot with all the hickory cabinetry around wasn't something I wanted.

Bill saw his heart doctor today and he's good for another six months.  I love those kind of reports.

We haven't done much since we returned from Amado.  Bill and I both agree, the week really tired us out.  Maybe it was all that good food and good company.

I was thrilled today when I found these two things in the mail.  Now I can begin to research about Alaska.

It's Over

Amado, Arizona
De Anza RV Resort

Every good thing has to come to an end.  Today everyone joined their fellow Escapees for the last food event.  The rally room was set up with coffee and a great selection of donuts.

People set around making plans when they would meet up again.  Bruce and Bunny have the loose gathering at Quartzite and I know they will have a large group for some of Bruce's famous soup.

The Escapees have a Happy Hour planned in January at Quartzite.  We'll be at the Montana Circling of the Wagons and will be within walking distance of the Happy Hour.

We pulled out around 9 am this morning, but not before we could have had a disaster.  Usually I always close the awning around dark.  No need for it to be out at night and after spending so much time back East learned the awning was dryer if it was closed.  Did you notice I used the word, usually?  Well last night by the time we came home, I forgot.  Could it have been because we were talking with friends right up until we opened the door?

As we were packing up I put the chairs in the passenger side basement.  I was thinking I was glad I was in the shade because it was already hot.

I put the slide out rooms in and talked with Betty a little bit.  Bill was getting into the truck to hitch up when I realized that the awning was still out.  Now don't laugh, but Bill and I actually saw a motorhome leaving the Pima County Fairgrounds with his awning out including the awnings over the driver side windows, so it does happen.  I don't think the driver used his mirrors for anything other than hanging stuffed animals on them.

Traffic wasn't bad and we were back at Sundance RV Resort before noon.

Now it's time to start dieting after all that food.  The repairman should be here tomorrow and then I should have a working refrigerator.

Day 4 Amado Joint Rally

Amado, Arizona
De Anza RV Resort

Hard to believe this is day four of the joint Escapees Chapter 21 and 45 Rally.  I think it was about 7:40 when we walked over for breakfast.  The place was packed.  Breakfast was great and there were huge portions.

We were still all talking when we realized that the games began at 9 am.  Today was the playoff's between the chapters.
We all went to watch and to cheer our teams on.  Lucky for us, we were guaranteed our team would win.  How could we lose?  Bill and I are members of Chapter 21 and Chapter 45.
These were the playoff teams--Dave Sweetman and David Luchini representing Chapter 21 and Carlena and Harry Schoolcraft representing Chapter 45.  The winners of the ladder balls was the Schoolcraft's.

Joe and Alice Know represented Chapter 45 in the bean bag and Don Dement and Mick Meilicke representing Chapter 21.
The winners of the bean bag were Joe and Alice Knox.

Each winning team received a prize.
Ed Allard giving Joe and Alice their prize.

Chapter 45 winners.

When the games were over, John and Karen Knoll took us to the arts festival in Green Valley.  There were some beautiful paintings and jewelry.  Of course there were signs everywhere that no photography was allowed.

By the time we returned, I knew that Don and Sharon Del Rosario were on their way.
We all went inside when the arrived as it was hot outside.  Gloria and Frank King rode down with them.  It was so good to see them.  It seems like every time we were planning to meet up with them, something interfered.
How do you like Don Del Rosario with his western hat?

It wasn't long before it was time for the Chapter 21 business meeting.  Happy Hour followed the meeting.

It was nice that we had time to visit with Don and Sharon.

Bruce and Bunny Ratcliff always have the loose gathering at Quartzite.  They were presented with a present for hosting the event.

Our last dinner was awesome.  Amy and Bob outdid themselves.

Everyone is having a great time.

No one walked away hungry.

Following dinner there was another campfire for those that wanted to enjoy one.  It was pretty warm, so we opted to head back to our home.

Amado Chapter 21 & 45 Joint Rally

Amado, AZ
De Anza RV Resort

Getting up and out the door by 7:30 am is getting easier.  Today the resort served pancakes with fruit and bacon.  I could only finish half of my breakfast.  It was good but way too large for me to finish.

Dave Cross came over and helped me figure out why I couldn't get Facebook to work on my tablet.  It was so simple to fix, it was embarrassing.  I had the camera with us, but was just to busy to remember to take photos.

After breakfast we joined the chapters for the games.  Today we played the bean bag toss.  I didn't do well, but we had a lot of fun.  Bill and I played darts for awhile, but he beat me.

We wanted to go to Tubac and check out the shops.  They have some beautiful unique shops and we wanted to walk around town before the temperature rose to the predicted 98 degrees.

I know my followers aren't going to believe this but the only thing I bought was from a kitchen shop.  Yes, I was in the kitchen store.  I bought a nice cheese slicer, and some magic tool that cuts the plastic on packaging.
I found some beautiful things in this store, but they all were a thousand dollars or more.

When we go up I 19 we have to pass through a border patrol station.   Can you see the portable tower they use?

Here's a close up of what it looks like.

Even thought the traffic was backed up a little, it didn't delay us much.  The agents just say "have a nice day" and wave us on.  I guess the grey hair helps.

This part of Arizona is so beautiful.  We always love coming down to this area.

When we came back it was about an hour before Happy Hour.  We went in and Bill tried to teach me how to play billiards.  Did you notice the word "tried".  Karen and John came in and used the other table.

There were some door prizes given away, but I didn't win anything.

Carlena and Harry Schoolcraft won a lot.
Carlena won two bracelets and gave me one of the ones she won.  Thank you, Carlena.

Here's a photo of the park.

Look at what Amy and Bob had at the entrance.

Here's Jeannie and Ed who are the Chapter 45 leaders.

Here's the Chapter 21 leaders, Sandie and Stu.

There was a seminar on Skymed followed by Happy Hour.

There was a brand new restaurant, the Firefly, that was about a mile or so away.  Karen Knoll set everything up and I think there were 32 that attended.

It was nice that they had it set up for four people per table.  So many times they have a long table set up and you can't carry on a conversation with others that aren't sitting near you and it just creates a lot of noise.

I'm sure there is a lost of history surrounding the place, but unfortunately, we didn't learn any of it.

It's a beautiful setting and I think everyone enjoyed it.

The sun was going down and casting great shadows on the mountains when we arrived.

Bill walked around the whole place.

The service was great for such a large group.

Do you think Bill enjoyed it.  He had a cajun pasta that was delicious.  I had garlic shrimp that was equally good.  Both of us cleaned our plates.

Escapees Joint 21/45 Rally

Amado, Arizona
De Anza RV Resort

This morning's breakfast was from 7:30-8:30 but nearly everyone was there by 7:30.  There's something about someone else doing the cooking that makes people show up early.

Amy and Bob announced that we could have our eggs however we wanted them prepared.  There was also sausage, and potatoes to go with it.  We could even choose what kind of toast we wanted.

After breakfast there were games which had one chapter against the other.  Chapter 45 played the bean bag toss and Chapter 21 played the ladder toss.  There are so many interesting things in this area to see, but since we've been here many times we joined in with the games.  By the number of people playing the games, I don't think many did much sightseeing.  We are very close to Nogales so if any visited Mexico today, they must have all returned to the states safely.

It was great fun and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

Do you think they solved all the world's problems?

I thought this was a great photo of our friends John and Karen Knoll.

Ed Allard, the president, of Chapter 45 had a few announcements for the members.

I'm sure he'll repeat the information at the first luncheon after the summer break.  In Arizona, because so many RVers head north, they do not hold luncheons during the summer months.

The big excitement is that Chapter 45 will have a 20 year anniversary celebration at Usery Park in December.  It sounds like a lot of fun.  The park ranger will lead a group on a full moon hike.  There is also a boat ride on Saguaro Lake  scheduled.

We had Happy Hour and I am happy to report there was less food than last night.  As soon as Happy Hour was over, we had a wonderful dinner put on by the RV resort.  It was a fajitas dinner and I guarantee no one went away hungry.  There was even pie for dessert.

I'm sorry, I was so busy eating and talking I didn't get any photos.

Amy and Bob were from Illinois, so they had all the TV's tuned to the World's Series.

Bill and I were so full from all the food, we decided to go put our bathing suits on and go for a swim in the salt water pool.

It was another full day of lot's of laughter, fun, and great food.
